Offshore Scaffold Builder - Broussard Louisiana

Position Summary:

A scaffold builder is responsible for building up and breaking down temporary scaffold structures. The optimal candidate will have a basic working knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines. Work locations may vary (offshore). 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must have good communication and network skills
  • Must have good teamwork skills, ability to coordinate with different department heads within the company.
  • Preferably to have a strong background in the Pipeline, Petrochemical and/or Oil & Gas Market Sectors
  • Must have ability to perform various technical services while working on ropes. 
  • Scaffold builders are responsible assembling and dismantling scaffolding structures that allow workers to access specific portions of a building to perform needed work. 
  • Builds, positions, and dismantles wooden structures, such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters, according to sketches, blueprints, or company standards. 
  • Craft who isn’t afraid to climb, walk, and work at high elevations.

  • Ensure that all procedures are understood prior to the start of work
  • Complete all required planning, safety meetings and documentation, including work permits, job hazard analyses, safety meetings and rescue plans
  • Ensure that the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) to be used
  • Identify work zones and ensure the safety of any personnel or public who may enter these zones.
  • Make certain that a prompt rescue of rope access personnel can be accomplished and that emergency services are available
  • Make certain that all equipment on the work site is protected from damage and is maintained in a safe condition throughout the work

Basic Qualifications:

  • Work at heights with no fear.
  • Examines, selects, and gathers materials and tools.
  • Examines blueprints and specifications to determine dimensions of structure.
  • Inspect base surface for obstructions.
  • Climbing - frequent ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms up in excess of heights of 100 feet. 
  • Balancing - maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. 
  • Stooping - bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. 
  • Pushing - using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward. 
  • Pulling - using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. 
  • Lifting - raising objects in excess of 100 pounds from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. 
  • Fine Manipulation – picking or pinching or otherwise working hands and fingers  
  • Able to perform very heavy work (exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move object.
  • Saws boards and plywood panels to required sizes.
  • Uses carpentry hand tools such as hammers, levels, squares, screw drivers, adjustable wrenches, hand and power saws, drill motors and pry bars.
  • Assembles scaffold containing handrails, mid rails, braces and planks, toe boards, screening, locking pins and wheels to job specifications.
  • Loads, transports and unloads material.
  • Determines type of scaffold needed and how to properly instruct on how to install.
  • Oversight of transport tubular scaffold or other structural material and erects the scaffold as instructed by the scaffold builder.
  • Hoists scaffolding materials upward in order to erect temporary structure.
  • Properly secures and levels locking sections of scaffolding material.
  • Properly secures scaffold to the permanent structure for added stability.
  • Supervises the dismantling of scaffolding when it has been properly communicated to do so.
  • Inspects and properly stows scaffolding material after dismantling.
  • Performs final inspection of completed scaffolding.
  • Other duties as assigned.
